The National Violence Monitoring System (NVMS) Indonesia is an online portal that provides an empirical basis for policymaking and programming to manage and prevent violence. The NVMS is led by the Coordinating Ministry for People’s Welfare, Republic of Indonesia with support from the Habibie Center and the World Bank. NVMS’s main activities include: 1) Collecting data on when, where, how, and why violence took place and its physical impact; and 2) Analyzing collected data and thematic studies about specific aspects of conflict. The NVMS database contains detailed information about over 180,000 incidents of violence since 1998 and is updated every month. To increase civil society’s participation, the NVMS data and analysis has been made publicly available via www.snpk-indonesia.com.
